Essent Biologics provides human tissue for research to support the advancement of science, transplantation, and related research objectives. Various members of Essent Biologics may evaluate proposals under an agreement of confidentiality. All research tissue provided is for NON-CLINICAL use only.

Deadline for Application

Please allow up to 5 business days for review and approval of all applications. The delivery of research tissue is subject to application approval and the availability of the requested research tissue.

  • By signing and submitting an Essent Biologics Research Tissue Application, the applicant (including the institution/business organization and principal investigator) agrees to the following terms and conditions:

    Human Subjects
    All research tissue provided is for NON-CLINICAL use only and is NOT suitable, nor provided, for use in human transplantation. Any clinical research inquiries may be made at https://www.allosource.org/clinical/

    Use of Animals
    All animals used in Essent Biologics research tissue supported projects must be transported, cared for, treated, and used in accordance with NIH guidelines. Applications that involve the use of animals for research require an IACUC acknowledgement receipt or approval from the institution where the project will be performed which should be submitted at the time of the application.
    Principal Investigators
    The principal investigator designated on the application will be responsible for administering the project upon approval both scientifically and financially during the entire research period. The principal investigator will receive all correspondence regarding the application and any subsequent research tissue shipments. The principal investigator will assure that all other investigators associated with the proposed project are listed on the application and are conversant with the Essent Biologics approval process, and that they have a written agreement defining and committing their participation in the project as stated in the application. If contributing investigators are associated with different institutions, or departments within an individual institution, such information shall be included in the application.

    Publications
    Essent Biologics encourages the publication of all research findings. Essent Biologics also encourages participation in all appropriate scientific meetings, forums, and research consortiums. Essent Biologics shall have 30 days to review and comment on any proposed publication or presentation, which consent shall not be unreasonably withheld. Provided Essent Biologics has given its advanced written consent, the applicant shall have the right to publish the results of any research supported by Essent Biologics research tissue. . The applicant agrees that any proprietary information supplied by Essent Biologics during the course of research performed with Essent Biologics research tissue shall be held in strict confidence and not used by the applicant except as agreed in writing by Essent Biologics. It shall not be disclosed to anyone or included in any published or presented material without the prior written consent of Essent Biologics, given or withheld in its sole discretion. Subject to approval by Essent Biologics, the applicant shall acknowledge Essent Biologics’ assistance in its presentations, publications, promotional materials and on any website to the effect of “This research was made possible through the support of Essent Biologics.” No information regarding Essent Biologics research tissue supported projects, their status or findings will be disclosed for any reason to any party outside of Essent Biologics for any purpose prior to publication without the written consent of the applicant; provided, however, that Essent Biologics may disclose the project title and applicant in Essent Biologics promotional materials. The applicant shall send Essent Biologics reprints of all papers and publications resulting from research receiving Essent Biologics research tissue.

    Research Tissue
    The applicant will use the research tissue provided only for the purposes set forth in this application. Furthermore, the applicant will not transfer the research tissue to any third party without prior written consent from Essent Biologics.

    Donor Information
    The applicant may request information regarding the age and sex of a donor(s), associated with a specific research tissue provided by Essent Biologics. For any other information related to a donor, a request must be made in writing by the applicant. The request must minimally include:
    • The name of the requestor
    • Institution/Business Organization
    • The purpose and/or nature of the request
    • Specific donor information requested

    All requests for donor information will be evaluated and disclosed at Essent Biologics’ discretion.

    Tissue Information
    The applicant may request information regarding tissue processing or testing information associated with a specific research tissue provided by Essent Biologics. Such request must be made in writing by the applicant. The request must minimally include:
    • The name of the requestor
    • Institution/Business Organization
    • The purpose and/or nature of the request
    • Specific information requested

    All requests for tissue information will be evaluated and disclosed at Essent Biologics’ discretion.

    Health & Safety
    Handling of the research tissue provided may represent a potential health hazard for the individuals who have either direct or indirect contact with the tissue. The applicant will be responsible for all safety precautions appropriate and applicable to the safe handling and disposal of the tissue.
    The applicant will dispose of the tissue received from Essent Biologics according to any AATB standards stated in American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB), Standards for Tissue Banking, 14th Edition and any additional national, regional, or local regulations.

    The applicant will assume all legal responsibilities arising out of or related to the use, handling, and disposal of the research tissue provided for the research purpose set forth in this application. Furthermore, the applicant agrees to indemnify, defend and hold Essent Biologics harmless from and against any and all liability, damages, loss or expense (including reasonable fees of attorneys and other professionals) arising from any claim, demand, action or proceedings based, arising out of or related to the use and handing of the tissue by any of the employees of the laboratory or facility at which the research will be conducted.

    Amendments
    These Terms and Conditions may only be amended or modified in written agreement signed by Essent Biologics and the applicant.
