Human Native Tissue-Derived Type I Collagen
As the main structural protein in the human body, native Type I Collagen is crucial to a vast array of medical and scientific research, providing structure to 3D scaffolds and an ideal ex-vivo environment for the attachment, proliferation, differentiation, and migration of cells.
Type I Collagen’s inherent self-organizing capacity, gel-forming characteristics, and abundant cell and matrix interaction domains make it ideal for two- and three-dimensional cell culture, labware coating applications, drug delivery, bioprinting, and as a scaffold for myriad tissue engineering modalities.
In molecular form, Type I Collagen has a triple helical conformation consisting of two genetically distinct alpha chains. The chains are generally composed of an amino acid sequence of Gly-X-Y where X and Y frequently are proline and hydroxyproline. The terminal domains of the collagen molecule are called telopeptides and these regions can be cleaved with proteolytic enzymes such as pepsin. When the telopeptides have been cleaved, the collagen is referred to as atelocollagen.
